Review: Getsuyoubi no Tawawa

Short series come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes they just want to cater to a particular subset of fans alone, this can result in something like this. Getsuyoubi no Tawawa is a short series based on everyday occurrences and the love of large boobs. Surprisingly it works. Short series are hard to be disappointing because they are just that, short. A few minutes each week to lighten up your day.

An unnamed salaryman meets a schoolgirl on the train and they eventually begin chatting whilst he acts as a guard to stop any molesters or gropers reaching her. Through this they strike up a relationship of sorts which leads him to look forward to his commute on the Monday.

Ai is a sweet girl. She seems fairly innocent at first but can be quite seductive. She knows exactly what she is doing and doesn’t shy away from it or pretend otherwise. She is constantly putting perverse images in his head as she tells him about her underwear, swimsuits or a friend grabbing and fondling her before revealing it is a girl. It notches up a bit of jealousy in him as it would.

Unnamed salaryman is your standard self-insert guy. A run of the mill worker with nothing of note hence the self-insert part which is fine, for a series this length it doesn’t need a complex character line-up and the girls are the focus anyway. His co-worker Kouhai is another large breasted girl who seems to quite like him, she gets drunk, jokes around and the like though we see far less of her.

It doesn’t need to get more complex than that, this is a short series so the content is light in nature and it works well. The episodes here are episodic as you’d expect but do follow the same characters from working in a café, school fitness tests, talking about going to the beach, working late at the office and more.

It’s been done all before yes but here because of the way it is presented it felt fresh to me. A lot of it is brought up in conversation on the train Monday morning like regular people would. They discuss what happened at the weekend or the past week since its natural, felt real and this differentiated it for me.

I suppose you could say there is a bit of a creep factor in that a fully grown adult seems to strike up a partnership with a school girl and she gives him the button from her blouse when it pops off because her breasts just keep growing. That and since we see this from his view you can see his leering at her and his thoughts.

I personally found it kind of sweet though and a bit of perverseness can never go wrong with me. He’s protecting her on a train carriage where groping and the like can happen and she is grateful for that. The relationship they strike up is sweet also, they learn about each other, she tells him of her school activities, what she gets up to whilst also listening to him talk about work and they offer each other advice. It gives him a release of sorts from the mundane 9-5 workday (though since it’s Japan 9-5 is a bit off).

Visually the show doesn’t really stand out. Animation is about par for the course here with a nice focus on the physics of the girls large breast as the bounce up and down and move in a way that is exquisite. The camera angles focus on them by giving prominence and a lot of the time shot from unnamed salarymans view which helps the self-insert angle work more.

The colour palette used here stood out to me as well, it’s not really that vibrant as the colours used are a bit faded or washed out which helped create the tedious lifestyle has come to expect but brightens up when he sees Ai. The art also gives an obvious focus to the large and plump breasts of the girls, I mean of course they would, it’s one of the shows focus.

It’s hard to fault this, it doesn’t set the world afire but it does what it sets out to do. Have a nice enjoyable short series with an emphasis on boobs which basically wake up the main guy from his unexciting life. A short fun watch.
